Steven & Alayna
The success of Glen Head Flower Shop began with Steven Kanata. It goes back to over 30 years ago, when he first realized his talent. After graduating from New Hyde Park Memorial High School, he began working for his father who was a florist in downtown Manhattan. He had bigger dreams and wanted to explore. He moved out to LA, which is where he was able to progress. He was working with the best product available and a high-end clientele. While working there, he truly realized what he was able to create and knew he could do this for a living.
After this experience, he moved back to Manhattan in 1981, and bought his father’s flower shop from him. Naming that shop and still known today as, Stevens-Gabes House of Flowers. Within 3 months, he became the most successful retail flower shop in downtown Manhattan. His eye for creativity and design brought him to the top. After the tragedy of 9/11, the reality set in that downtown Manhattan was no longer. He made a bold move to come out to Long Island and buy Glen Head Flower Shop. He was able to implement his amazing designs and Long Island loved it.
In 2012 his daughter, Alayna Kanata, joined the team. She has always loved the flower shop having grown up in it. She studied at Quinnipiac University and majored in Sociology and Business Management. After graduating she realized her passion in life was right in front of her the whole time. Her love of event planning and designing has grown their wedding and event business immensely and she loves to work on the day to day growth of the company as a whole. They take pride in being family owned and the father-daughter duo is their key to success.
